Attendance Reporting
Report attendance using one of the methods below.
- ParentVUE
- Beginning in the 24-25 school year, parents/legal guardians can submit full-day absences using ParentVUE. Learn more about attendance reporting through ParentVUE
- 703-658-5656
- [email protected]
When reporting a student's absence, please be specific about why your student will not attend school today.
- If reporting an ill student, include symptoms, especially if they have a fever, nausea, vomiting, sore throat, and/or cough. If your student has a diagnosis from a healthcare provider, please include that information.
Attendance Policies
Daily attendance is important! Unless a child is ill, he/she is expected to be in school. Please call the office by 9:00 a.m. at (703) 658-5656 or complete an attendance report on ParentVUE at anytime your child is absent. Otherwise, we will call to verify your child’s absence.
Excused Absence
An excused absence is when your child misses a full school day for a reason the school approves of. Please inform the school ahead of time, if possible, with the reason for the absence.
Approved absences include illness, death in the family, medical or dental appointment, and observance of religious holidays.
Unexcused Absence
An unexcused absence happens when a child misses a full school day and either:
- The school doesn't hear from the parent within three days,
- The parent doesn't support the absence, or
- The reason given by the parent isn't accepted by the school.
The school can change an unexcused absence to an excused one if the parent later provides a good reason or there are special circumstances.
Tardies
Students who are not in their classrooms by 8:35 a.m. are considered tardy. Late arriving students must be escorted by an adult into the office to sign in. Students are never to be dropped off in front of the school.
Pre-arranged Absence
If parents know their child will miss school for an activity or cultural event, they should inform the school ahead of time. For longer absences, like for hardships, parents need to tell the principal at least three to five school days in advance and provide proper documentation.
What happens after 5 unexcused absences?
After the fifth unexcused absence, the school will refer the student to the attendance officer.
What happens after 15 consecutive absences?
After 15 days of consecutive absences, the student will be withdrawn and must re-enroll upon return.
