Educational Programs

ATES is committed to providing high-quality education through innovative programs that cater to the diverse needs of its students. The school offers a range of specialized programs, including:

Advanced Academic Programs

The Advanced Academic Program (AAP) believes in developing the strengths and talents of all students and offers a continuum of advanced academic services to meet a broad range of student needs. Students receive access at a classroom level with access to engaging strategies and extensions of content matter. They also receive further access through our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART), Michelle Carr-Hogan.

ATES Ensemble

Annandale Terrace Elementary School's Ensemble is a musical group comprising students from the school who demonstrate a keen interest and talent in music. Run by our music teachers, Essel Linton and Jamiah Harrison, it provides students with an opportunity to develop their musical skills, work collaboratively, and perform in front of audiences.

Young Scholars

The Young Scholars (YS) Model identifies and nurtures advanced academic potential in students from historically underrepresented populations.

Student After- School Programs

Annandale Terrace hosts a wide variety of After School programs for students. Most notable is our After School Academy which offers extra support for qualifying students. We also host Social Emotional Learning Clubs and Lego Spike Clubs before and after school. Reach out to your student's teacher for more information. 

Get2Green and EcoSchool Program

Get2Green is the environmental stewardship program for Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia. ATES is proud to be active participants in the Get2Green program. Our students also recently helped ATES recieve the Silver National EcoSchool Award for our Get2Green efforts.

Student Council Association

Our Student Council Association (SCA) is run by Maria Pezzuti and Samantha Beiro. It is made up of four officers and different representatives from all classrooms. Each fall, our student body votes for a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. 

1:1 Technology for All Grades

ATES is an FCPSOn School. Students in 1st through 5th grades receive a laptop. Students in PreK through Kindergarten receive iPads. The equitable access to technology allows us to tailor instruction to student needs. It also teaches students indiviudal responsiblity students in certain grade levels are allowed to take their laptop home.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) services help students achieve academic success, develop critical thinking skills, and solve problems.

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)

AVID Elementary is a research-based instructional framework embedded into daily routines at the elementary level. AVID-trained teachers infuse writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading, relational capacity, and college/career awareness into their classes.

Community Engagement

ATES strives to engage with our local community. We host Parent Coffees every other Friday from 9 am to 10 am in our our Cafeteria. We also have a Parent Center where three wonderful Family Liasions will help families work and volunteer with our school. On top of that we have many events to engage families at Annandale Terrace including:

  • Dance Night
  • Multicultural Night
  • Partners in Print (PiP) Night
  • Science Night
  • Movie Night
  • Bingo 
  • Math Night
  • Family Lunches

Special Education Services including Noncategorical Special Education (NCE)

There are many programs at Annandale Terrace, as well as in FCPS, that support the implementation of evidence-based practices to increase the academic achievement and the social and emotional competence of students based on individual needs.

Early Childhood Special Education

 FCPS works hard to provide programs and services that prepare young children and parents who need extra guidance and support to be ready to start kindergarten feeling confident and ready to learn. Some of the early childhood programs that Annandale Terrace offers offers include:

  • PreK- This preschool program is for children 3-4 years old whose parents meet income requirements. Learn more about apply for PreK at FCPS. 

     

  • Preschool Autism Class (PAC)-Preschool Autism Class services are designed with a reduced adult to student ratio and provide systematic instruction in a highly structured setting to maximize learning. The program uses Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior (VB) to foster communication, social skills, appropriate behavior, and development of other skills as designated in the student’s IEP.

Safety Patrols

Safety Patrols help students arrive to and from school safely each morning and afternoon. Fourth and Fifth grade students are invited to apply each year. For questions about Safety Patrols, contact Marlee Farbstein. 

ATTV News Show

Fifth Grade students are invited to apply each year to the ATTV Morning News Show. Student present important announcements and learn how to run the technology behind the news show. For questions about ATTV News, please contact Ashley Ireland, Maria Pezzuti, or Jamiah Harrison. 

School Aged Child Care (SACC)

School Age Child Care (SACC) is a Fairfax County Office for Children program for children in kindergarten through sixth grade and is available at Columbia Elementary. SACC is a program run by the Fairfax County Government.
