Background: The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) is a federal grant which requires that spending be used in specific areas. Part of the Fairfax County Public Schools spending plan identifies funding to be used for Unfinished Learning and Student Academic and Social, Emotional, Mental Health (Wellness) Needs. Schools have been given funding allocations to support the academic and wellness needs of students. Schools are required to create plans in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Wellness highlighting the strategies they will use to support these areas using their ESSER III funding. These strategies are shown below.
ESSER III English Language Arts Strategies |
Outcome: All students in grades Pre K-5 will make a year or more of progress as measured by the PALs, iReady, and ORF. |
Strategy 1 All students in grades K-5 will receive daily whole group (tier 1) lessons on phonemic awareness, phonics, and word study in order to build their word recognition skills. |
Strategy 2 Explicitly teach high level language skills (inferencing, comprehension monitoring, and awareness of text structure) via interactive read alouds of complex texts. |
Strategy 3 Provide Tier 2 instruction as preventative intervention that targets the underlying difficulty impacting the student’s progress in literacy. |
ESSER III Mathematics Strategies |
Outcome:
|
Strategy 1 We will strengthen Tier I instruction in Math across grades K-5 through continued implementation of Math Workshop. |
Strategy 2 We will build the capacity of our students during small group instruction with deliberate focus on differentiated support to close the learning gaps. |
Strategy 3 Math concepts and vocabulary will be scaffolded to meet the academic language acquisition for all students. |
Teaching social awareness and building empathy for each other (cultures, race, ethnicity, disabilities, differences, etc.) through various resources. |
Strategy 3 |
