Consent for Digital Resources
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) works hard to keep your child's information safe. We need your permission for your child to use certain online tools for school. Please fill out the form below to give your okay. You can change your mind anytime by contacting the school.
FCPS uses different tools to help students learn. Some tools need your permission, and we make sure all of them are safe and protect your child's privacy. Some of the tools don’t collect any personal information at all.
How To Provide Consent
- Go to the Parent Digital Consent Application
- Log in with the same username and password you use for SIS ParentVUE.
- Follow the provided directions.
Parental consent will expire at the end of this school year and can be revoked at any time by contacting the school.
Digital Citizenship
What is Digital Citizenship?
Digital Citizenship can be described as the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior (and its positive and negative impact on self and others) with regard to technology use. To learn more about the topics of digital citizenship, use this topic summary.
Virginia legislation requires schools to include a component on internet safety for students in the division's acceptable internet use policies and integrated within the instructional programs.
Lightspeed- Learn what your student is accessing at school
Parents who are interested in knowing more about their child’s internet activity on an FCPS device can sign up to our online service. It is a free service to FCPS parents. Parents can sign up to receive a weekly Parent Report from Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service. The report will provide a list of the top sites the child visited that week.
Request Process
The request process is simple for the parent:
- Parents must make sure that they have two items before making a request - the enrolling parent email address on file in SIS and the student’s ID number. To protect the student data being shared with an unauthorized email, those two variables must match exactly what we have in the system to verify the parent’s association to the child.
- Parents can then go to the Technology Support for Families page and submit a ticket requesting to be added to the Lightspeed Weekly Parent Report, and should include the enrolling parent email address on file in SIS and the student’s ID number.
Once verified, the enrolling parent email will be added to the parent report recipient list, and the parent will start receiving the report for their child over the weekends.
